• Is it neccessary to put backing on a reel before spooling braid onto it?

For all spinning and baitcast reels, it is suggested to put some type of backing or arbor tape onto the arbor before starting into the braid. If you don’t, the braid will spin on itself around the arbor due to how slick it is.  Another trick is to wrap a thin rubber band around your arbor evenly a few times, and then just tie on your braid and start spooling.
